| Decomposition: Life’s Process of Renewal |
|
weedonisland writes, "Decomposition is a vital ecological process linked to the Earth itself. "

Friday, August 17, 2007 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Dr. Bruce Rinker, Director, Environmental Lands Division Join Dr. Rinker, Director of Pinellas County’s Environmental Lands Division, as he presents the fascinating world of decomposition. Poets and thinkers through the ages have wondered why it is that when you bury a dead body in the ground, the soil is not poisoned. Dirt, “the ecstatic skin of the Earth,” is where poisons are neutralized, chemicals are recycled, and life is renewed. Decomposition is a vital ecological process linked to the Earth itself. Dr. Rinker will introduce participants to Gaia Theory and some of this decomposition chemistry. Mites, springtails, worms, and other creepy-crawlies will also be featured during the evening presentation. This program is free and pre-registration is requested. Recommended for adults and children over 10 years old. For additional information and to register call (727) 453-6500. 1800 Weedon Dr. NE, St Petersburg, Florida 33702 Website http://www.pinellascounty.org/Events Email: weedonisland@pinellascounty.org
